NASA is now seeking candidates for the NASA Ames Director of Science position.

NASA Ames Research Center is a leading research institution in the heart of the Silicon Valley developing state-of-the-art technologies to enable human exploration, scientific discoveries and next generation aeronautics. We are currently seeking candidates for the Director of Science, Senior Executive Service position.

The Director of Science provides executive leadership, strategic formulation, and management for the Science Directorate engaged in NASA’s astrobiology, astrophysics, planetary sciences, biological sciences and Earth science programs. S/He establishes and maintains advocacy and relations with partner organizations at other NASA Centers; with sponsoring stakeholders at NASA Headquarters, and with numerous industry and academic partners.

The Science Directorate is comprised of ~400 civil servants, contractors, postdoctoral fellows, cooperative researchers, and students. The Science Directorate conducts and manages basic and applied research, technology development, and flight project development and operations for NASA programs.

Ames applies the spirit of Silicon Valley to NASA’s mission, and there’s a good chance you’ll find a piece of Ames Science in any space mission, field deployment or airborne science flight. Our numerous one-of-a-kind facilities and deep, interwoven areas of expertise are vital elements of the nation’s strategy for exploration.
