Mound Near Lunar South Pole Formed by Unique Volcanic Process
The Mafic Mound is the result of a unique kind of volcanic activity set in motion by the colossal impact that formed the South Pole-Aitken Basin.
Water ice and other frozen volatiles are to be found in many shadowed craters near the lunar poles.
