CLASS/FSI Seminar Series: Fall 2019 featuring David Masten, Masten Space Systems

October 9 @ 8:30 am PDT - 9:30 am PDT

CLASS/FSI Seminar: David Masten, Masten Space Systems

TITLE: Transportation and Development of the Cis-Lunar Economy

PRESENTER: David Masten, Masten Space Systems

ABSTRACT:
As with all human activity, transportation is a key enabling element. Transportation to and from the lunar surface has a number of challenges including having the required energy, landing accurately at a desired location, dealing with the cold of lunar darkness, and dealing with the abrasive regolith. This talk will discuss these challenges and some solutions and how Masten envisions the establishment and growth of a Cis-Lunar economy.

About David:
David Masten founded Masten Space Systems in 2004. He led the winning team in the NASA Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge, and led the team through over 600 flights on 5 rocket powered vehicles, including test flights for the Landing Vision System being used for the Mars 2020 mission. He is currently leading the development of Masten’s lunar landers for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program.
