Dear Exploration Science Community,

We at SSERVI have been deeply troubled by the events of the past weeks, as so many of you have. Recognizing that staying silent only supports the injustices felt every day by the African American community, it is important for all of us to take action to stop the racism so pervasive in our nation, not only in the current moment but permanently. As Martin Luther King said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

On this #ShutDownSTEM day and beyond, I want to make it clear that SSERVI stands with everyone committed to eliminating systemic racism. Only by doing this will we create the fair, open community that supports the best science we can achieve together. Our job at SSERVI is to help bring humankind beyond its cradle on Earth to the stars. We can only move forward in this important and inspiring task by being just to everyone.
